The relationship of smoking lung cancer

Sometimes when one has a vice or an addiction, it is hard to try and accept the dangerous consequences of our addiction.  For example, smoking is proven to be the leading cause of lung cancer.  Most of the lung cancer cases could have been easily prevented by simply avoiding tobacco products - about 87% of all lung cancer cases are due to smoking.  Therefore, the direct relationship between smoking and lung cancer is extremely clear.  The longer you smoke, and the more your smoke, the greater your risk is of becoming diagnosed with lung cancer. 

Furthermore, the relationship between smoking and lung cancer is even more dangerous, because smoking has been directly linked with causing small cell lung cancer, which is the most dangerous type of lung cancer.  This type of lung cancer spreads to the body very quickly and can often attack other organs and parts of the body.  An individual who has small cell lung cancer is expected to only live several months if they never receive any type of treatment.  You should also know that small cell lung cancer does have some treatment options, but in some cases there isn't even an option for treatment.  Therefore, smoking can bring about a type of lung cancer for which you cannot find a cure!
   

Cigarette smoke is one of the leading causes of smoke-related lung cancer, particularly because of all of the many chemicals which are contained in cigarettes.  For example, cigarette smoke contains carginogens, which are substances that have been proved to be cancer-causing.  In totally, cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 different types of chemicals, and many of these have been linked to causing cancer.  There is still a very strong relationship between lung cancer and "lite" cigarettes, low-tar cigarettes, and cigarettes with filters - don't trick yourself into thinking that you are any more "safe" from lung cancer with these devices, because you're not!

In addition, to cigarettes, other tobacco products also have been linked to cancer. Smoking pipes and cigars are also dangerous and contain harmful products which have been linked to causing cancer. Smoking marijuana has also been linked to lung cancer, although statistics have more closely linked lung cancer with smoking tobacco than marijuana. However, it has been proven that the risk for lung cancer increases the more that a person smokes marijuana. Essentially, one should stay away from all types of smoking in order to minimize (and almost eliminate!) the chances of getting lung cancer.

Even if a person doesn't smoke himself, he can still be at risk if he lives with an individual who smokes. Second-hand smoke is another leading cause of lung cancer. In fact, more than 3,000 people die a year due to lung cancer that was received from second-hand smoke. If you are a smoker, don't put your loved ones at risk by smoking near them! In fact, quit smoking altogether, so that you can save your life and the lives of those around you!

When someone does quit smoking, the chances for getting lung cancer decrease dramatically each year. By stopping to smoke, you can allow your body the chance to produce normal cells, which can replace the abnormal cells created by smoking. After ten years of non-smoking, the risk of getting lung cancer can get up to one-half the risk for people who still smoke. Therefore, quitting is a really good way to decrease your risk level for lung cancer!

Furthermore, you also can decrease your chances of other smoking related diseases, such as chronic bronchitis and heart disease! Remember, there is always going to be a relationship between lung cancer and smoking - why not eliminate that relationship by throwing the rest of your cigarettes away?
