- Good Communication in Marriage Starts with Respect | Psych Central
This is a great article talking about open communication in your marriage. It discusses simple things you can do to show your partner respect and how to effectively talk to your partner without hurting their feelings. - Communicating With Your Spouse
This web site emphasizes open communication with your spouse and how it contributes to a happy marriage. It discusses simple things you can do to show your spouse respect and help one another build your marriage.
Self-centeredness is one of the largest downfalls for marriages. Both spouses need to treat one another equally and with respect. Men and women need one another and both have different qualities and characteristics that set them apart. If you have children, it is important to be respectful to your spouse and never criticize them in front of your children.
Women tend to talk more than men and like to express their feelings and emotions. Men on the other hand need time to think and can quickly become overwhelmed by talkative women. It is important for wives to give their husbands time to cool off and have some alone time before they bombard them with questions about their day. It is also important to recognize your differences. Since women are verbal creatures, they often expect men to understand exactly what they are saying or thinking. Men are not mind readers, so you need to effectively communicate what you are thinking or feeling, subtle hints will not work with men.
Husbands and wives need to make time to listen to each other. Sometimes they do not want advice for their problems; they only want someone to listen to their problems. Both men and women need respect and love in a marriage. One way to show respect to your spouse is to bite your tongue during an argument. Calmly talk about your problems instead of overwhelming your partner with insults. Treating one another with dignity will help foster respect and love in your marriage.
Both men and women need attention and affection from their spouse. Give
your spouse positive affirmations when they do things that help you and
your children. It can be simple things like washing the car or getting
the mail. Communicate your appreciation to your spouse for all the
little things they do for you. By paying attention to what your spouse
does, you are demonstrating respect for them. You are allowing your
spouse to be different from you and are showing them that you admire
who they are as a person.
One way to show your spouse respect
is to help keep the home clean. Show your spouse that you care about
the life you have built together by treating your home with respect.
The home is a reflection of your love for one another. A home that is
tidy and organized shows that the couple cares about where they live
and they want their home to be inviting to other people.
Married
couples need to learn how to grow together. Couples will come to
understand one another when they learn new things together, physically
and intellectually. This can be simple things like teaching your spouse
how to play golf or taking an online course together. Whatever it may
be, encourage your spouse to grow and learn new tasks with you.
Relationships
- If You Want a Loving Relationship
This web site informs married couples how to earn their spouse's respect. It talks about looking for the positive qualities in your spouse and how it can help to establish a healthy relationship. - show respect
This web site provides simple things you can do to show your spouse respect. It talks about different ways to provide open communication with your spouse without hurting their feelings.
You should never talk down to your spouse. Husbands and wives are equals and they need to be treated that way. The man is not superior to the woman and the woman is not superior to the man. Never make your spouse feel like a child by criticizing their behavior or reminding them to get things done. Both men and women want to be admired by their spouse, not spoken down to like a child.
One of the best tools in a marriage is open communication. In order for the marriage to become successful, both partners must speak clearly to one another. Men and women are not mind readers, so it is impossible to expect your partner to understand what you are meaning if you are not telling them. If a couple can talk about their concerns, they will be able to create a strong marriage.
You can show your spouse respect by listening to them. If they have had a hard day, sit down with them and let them vent. When you are in an argument with your spouse, avoid talking down to them and calling them names. Do not allow yourself to become overtaken by aggression and anger. Try to remain calm during the argument and give your spouse time to communicate their feelings. When you are going through rough patches in your marriage, try to lighten the burden by keeping a sense of humor. A good sense of humor can help you and your spouse relax and get through difficult conversations without hurt feelings.
If you do not understand what your spouse is saying, ask for clarification. By repeating what you have understood from your spouse, you are showing them that you are listening to them and you respect what they are saying. A good listener can also involve body language cues to show your spouse you are listening. Nodding your head or smiling will help your spouse relax because they feel you are giving them attention.
Be honest with your spouse; never hesitate to tell your spouse how you are feeling. If you like something, tell your spouse. Far too often people are worried about the reactions their partner may have and they will not express the emotions they are feeling. If you don't say what is on your mind, you can end up in a hopeless situation where hurt feelings are abundant. If you dislike something, tell your spouse. It is easier to be upfront in the beginning of the marriage than to let certain things worsen over time.
Accepting your spouse for their faults and weaknesses will make you a better spouse. If you would like to see your spouse change something about their personality, you better be ready to compromise. Remember that no one is perfect and your spouse probably would like to see some changes in you as well. If you work on changing yourself instead of your spouse, you will see a change in your overall perspective. By accepting your spouse for their faults and weaknesses, you are showing a large level of respect.
If you feel you and your spouse are growing apart, say so. You must communicate what is bothering you to your spouse if you expect to have a successful relationship. Being open with your spouse will actually draw you closer together and strengthen your relationship. Seek the advice of a marriage counselor if both you and your spouse feel the relationship is starting to grow apart. Make efforts to touch your partner's hand, or sit next to them when you are watching television. Small, simple things are an easy way to show your partner you love them.
Do not mock your partner. Mocking and sarcasm are an easy way to show disrespect to your partner. Mocking and sarcasm also cause hurt feelings that may lead to depression in some marriages. They also cause resentment and anger for some people.
You can show your spouse respect by allowing them to voice their opinion. Opinions are personal things and they can be disagreed upon by your spouse. If your spouse has a strict opinion on something, agree to disagree. If you try arguing your opinion with your spouse, you will end up frustrating one another and someone will wind up mad or hurt. There can be differences of opinions in a marriage and your opinion is not always the right one.
Bonding with your Spouse
- Affection
This blog provides great information about how you can show your spouse respect. It talks about providing your spouse with emotional and physical affection and listening to them when they are talking.
If you have had a big argument in the past, leave it in the past if you have already resolved it. Don't rehash your past arguments and hold those things against your spouse. You should look back on your past arguments as a learning experience. By letting go of the past issues, you are showing your partner that you respect them and trust them. You are continually growing in your relationship and both you and your partner are learning things together.
When a couple works together, they are showing respect for one another. Each person in the relationship will want to see the marriage succeed. No one gets married expecting the marriage to end in divorce. Over 50 percent of all marriages end in divorce, which means somewhere along the line these couples lost their respect for each other.
A simple way to show your spouse respect is to create a list of all the qualities you admire in them. Look over this list daily and thank them for their different attributes. Show your spouse how much you care about them by surprising them with a gift or a dinner. It is important to be on the same page as your spouse and work together toward the same goal. Go on dates twice a month or once a week to remind one another how much you truly enjoy being with them. Give your spouse the love and attention they need to remain happy and positive in your marriage.
One of the best ways to show your spouse respect is to put their needs first. Avoid becoming selfish and think about your spouses feelings before your own. If you know you wife likes a clean home, randomly vacuum the house or tidy up the kitchen. If you know your husband enjoys watching sports, give him space and don't nag him while he is watching television. By respecting each other's differences, you will show one another how much you truly care for your marriage.

very true hub, I believe that people get hurt by their spouse and instead of just saying that they are hurt it will come out in passive agressive ways that end up breaking down the marriage. when couples learn to communicate better the marriage has a greater chance of lasting. Poor communication can only lead to more trouble in the marriage! Great Hub!!!
