Life is to be enjoyed, but many people are missing out on things they could be feeling just because they are not happy or healthy. Here are some tips that can help you to stay happy and healthy throughout your life and especially as you hit those golden years.

Keeping yourself healthy

Being in good health is one of the major contributors to being happy in life. If things are always going wrong with health, it is sometimes difficult to keep a positive outlook and to see things in a good way. Living a healthy lifestyle allows people to do more things and to have more fun and to really take advantage of opportunities unhealthy people don't have. One of the first things you need to keep in mind to live a healthy life is to eat the right things. Nutrition plays a very important role in staying healthy and a good diet is one of the best ways to protect yourself from other medical problems too. You should try and eat foods like fruits, vegetables and other foods rich in nutrients. When there are less `empty' calories in your food, you will find that you enjoy eating more and regret food choices less and also that you don't need to eat as much to feel full. Try to avoid foods that are high in fats, cholesterol and sodium. Having a balanced diet will give you a stronger body and will help your immune system fight off other illnesses better. You should also make a conscious effort to exercise regularly. Make it a habit and you will exercise and feel great for your whole life. Setting a routine can be difficult in the busy world where we live, but living longer is a great side benefit of regular exercise. Exercising helps relieve stress for many people and also releases endorphins that make you feel better. It is also great to feel the satisfaction of doing something difficult, even if it hurts a little the next day.

Avoid harmful substances and other things that can cause degenerative diseases like cancer. Don't smoke or drink alcohol and try to avoid situations where a lot of smoke will be present. The air you breathe is very important to your health. Protect yourself from bad situations that could compromise your health. You should also find effective ways to deal with stress so that you don't let something become bigger than it is and affect your health. It is also recommended by all medical professionals that you have regular checkups and physicals to monitor your health.

Keeping yourself happy

If you want to be happy, one of the first things you need to do is to convince yourself you can be happy and then surround yourself with happy people and things that make you happy. Sometimes this can be more complicated than you may think, because then you are analyzing what really makes you happy. Sometimes it is difficult to just let things go, but when you learn how, you will enjoy life much more. Spending time on yourself and developing the talents and skills that are important to you is another way to keep happy. Get a hobby and stick to it so you can spend time doing something you like. Try to be positive about everything that you do and you will find that good situations present themselves more and more often to you. You will always find what you are looking for in life and if you are looking for good, then you will probably find it. Living healthy will make you feel happier and living happy will make you want to be healthy. It is a great circular cycle that keeps building on itself.
