This will open your mind and allow you to learn and explore new possibilities. One project in your house could lead to another project and eventually you will have a house full of new things. Let's go over steps on how you can replace vinyl windows.
Instruction
Difficulty level: if you have basic construction knowledge then it is, moderate, in difficulty
Steps:
1. First you need to choose the windows that you are going to be replacing. If you can replace all the windows in your house at one time then you will need to choose the windows that you want to replace your existing windows with.
2. Start with one window at a time.
3. Go out side the house, because the windows are mounted from the outside.
4. Remove everything that is covering the external window flange, to expose all the window fasteners holding the window in place, these could be nails, staple, or screws.
5. Find the right tool to undo the window fastens.
6. Remove all the window fastens one by one, and anything else that is holding the window in place.
7. Remove the existing window from the hole that the window sits inside.
8. Put the existing window aside and prepare the hole for the replacement window.
9. Measure the hole before you buy you replacement window. When you are sure your window will fit you are ready to install.
10. Place quarter inch shims one each corner of the window sill. The window will sit one the shims.
11. Place the window in the whole on the shims. Shims are small dividers that look like miniature wedges.
12. Center the window in the whole, making sure that there are equal distances on al sides of the window.
13. Fasten the bottom two corners of your new window to the wall using nails, screws or staples, your choice.
14. Open the window a quarter inch or more; to make sure that your window track is parallel and your window will open correctly.
15. If you window is not even then you will need to shim the middle on the inside of the widow sill.
16. If your window is even then you will put a nail or what ever you are using to fasten in the middle on the bottom of the window.
17. Finish nailing all four sides of the window, or if you choose to you can only nail the bottom and the two sides.
18. Once you window is completely fastened you can pull your shims out from the bottom of the window, they will no longer be needed.
19. Then you replaced what ever was covering the window on the out side, this would be; siding, stucco, bricks, or rocks.
20. You have replaced you first window, now you can continue all the steps to replace the rest of the windows inside your house.
Tips & Warnings
- Always make sure there is someone on the inside of the house and the outside of the house, the window will fall if there isn't someone holding it in place.
- Careful not to put your window in inside out, or upside down.
- Always measure your window space to insure a secure fit.

Now that's a great hub ;)
Im assuming this was a metal window replacement? If it is a wood frame replacement it is much easier to replace from inside of the house.
