This article give tips on exercising while working.
Many men take pride in their calf muscles and work very hard to make them big and strong. If you want to build up your calf muscles, the fastest way to do it is through consistent exercise that targets the calf muscles.
The following are some ways you can build your calf muscles:
Do cardiovascular exercises
Cardio exercises, or those that get your heart rate up and your blood pumping, are an excellent way to build your calf muscles. Cardiovascular exercise can help you keep your weight at a healthy level (or bring it down if you are overweight), reduces the risk of developing heart diseases, and helps improve your overall fitness level.
The following cardio exercises are also excellent for building your calf muscles. And because you typically do cardio for longer stretches of time, your calves get more of a workout than if you were to just do calf-strengthening exercises alone.
- Running. Running, whether on the treadmill or outside, is an excellent way to build or strengthen your calf muscles. It's also a great form of cardio exercise. Even jogging, if you are just starting a running program, is a good way to build your calves.
- Uphill walking/jogging. One of the best ways to build your calves and work your heart as well is through uphill walking or jogging. This is best if you have a treadmill, so you can control the incline and speed. If you are doing uphill walking or jogging on a treadmill, start slow and don't overdo it at first.
- Stairstepper/stair climbing. Another great way to build you calf muscles as well as get some cardio exercise is through using a stair climber or Stairmaster at the gym. If you don't have a gym membership, a flight of stairs will work just as well. The constant climbing motion will work to strengthen calves and give them definition.
Do targeted calf exercises.
Exercises that target your calves specifically are also important for strengthening your calf muscles. Most of these exercises can be done at home or even at the office as well. They include:
- Standing calf raises. This can be done on a machine at the gym or at home. If you're using a machine, stand with your shoulders under the pads and raise the machine with the balls of your feet. Keep your heels down as far as possible, knees straight but not locked. Raise onto the balls of your feet and squeeze your calf muscles. If you aren't at the gym, you can do this exercise on just about anything sturdy, such as a stair or blocks.
- One-legged standing calf raises. This exercise is just like the one described previously, but it is for more advanced exercisers who already have fairly strong calves. It is done the same way as the standing calf raise, only on one leg at a time.
Things to remember
Calf injuries are common for people who are trying to strengthen their calves. These tips will help you to strengthen your calves safely and without straining:
- Warm up beforehand by jogging slowly or doing a slow stair climb.
- Don't overdo it. Start with a lighter weight and work your way up. Too much weight will strain your muscles.
- Massage your calf muscles after working them. This will prevent injury and maintain blood circulation.
- Stretch your calves by flexing your feet before and after working your calves.

Great info. You left out my favorite exercise sport for calves... tennis. It was very popular when Sampras & Agassi were competing ands Pre-Tiger Woods. That kind of separated the partnership of Golf and Tennis.
