How ergonomic furniture impacts employee health

Many employers are looking for ways to improve the productivity of their workers. One way to do this is to convert your office to an ergonomic office. An ergonomic office allows employees to prevent muscle pain and eye strain. You can go extreme and purchase new furniture or you can do some small things with your existing products to improve your employee's health.

Talk to your employees and find out what some of their common complaints are. Chances are your employees will say a few of the following:

  • Neck pain
  • Back pain
  • Eye fatigue
  • Leg cramps
  • Wrist pain

These are all indicators that your office does not have proper office ergonomics. When you do small things like purchase wrist rests for your employees, they will find that some of the pain just disappears. Getting proper lumbar support to your employees will improve their posture and it will stop lower back pain from occurring.

When your employees are not constantly experiencing pain, they are more productive. Place anti-glare screens on all of your computer monitors. This will reduce eye fatigue caused from straining your eyes to read the computer screen. You can also try dimming the computer screens or turning on more lights. The room should always be brighter than the computer screen in order to prevent eye fatigue that leads to headaches, which often leads to lost production costs and increased sick leave.

If you really want your employees to become more productive, converting to an ergonomic workplace is the way to go. The ergonomic keyboards and mice allow employees to work at a faster pace because they can help you type faster. Everything on the employee's desk must be easy to reach. You should never need to move forward or reach to get the items you need in order to perform your job properly. Many people have found that they are actually more productive when they can reach things without moving. This is because they know exactly where it is at so they do not need to search for it. You can easily multi-task when you spend time figuring out what items you need to leave on your desk for immediate use. Anything that is not required to do your job onĀ  day-to-day basis should be removed from the desk.

It is important to take good care of your body with office ergonomics. Doing simple things like stretching out the muscles will help to improve your ability to be a productive employee. This is due to the fact that your muscles are loose and relaxed and they are able to work harder. When the muscles are tense, it is harder to work because you cannot get rid of the tension in your bodies, especially in the muscles. Having too much stress will cause problems for your health. For one it will raise your blood pressure which increases your risk of having a stroke or heart attack. Secondly, it causes the nervous system to go into a rage. When the nervous system is not relaxed, your body will have a hard time calming down. Deep breathing is the best thing you can do to relax the nervous system. You can also try lying down for a few minutes a day and closing your eyes and picturing yourself in your "happy place". Try to go to this place every time you start to feel like you are losing control of the nervous system. Drink some cold water and hold it in your mouth for a few seconds. Focus on the purity of the water and this will help to reduce the stress on your nervous system.
