Dealing with an itchy scalp
65A head itch, and an itchy scalp are two very different things. Occasionally skin is going to itch, however a chronically itchy scalp can indicate a problem such as dandruff, head lice, acne or even in more serious circumstances scalp psoriasis. Having an itchy scalp is not only highly uncomfortable, it can also be extremely embarrassing. In order to eliminate itch, and the need to scratch your head, it is best to start by determining what is causing your itchy scalp in the first place, and then treating it. In some cases the itch is caused by something minor, such as dandruff, but in other cases it can be quite serious. For example, it could be deep bacteria present at the root of the hair, which may lead to serious hair problems like hair thinning. If you have an itchy scalp a follicle analysis can be done and this analysis can help to guide you towards the right direction for a solution. Consult your doctor, or try a few things at home first to see if you can find the solution to the problem on your own.
The following are some common causes of itchy scalp, and how to deal with them:
Hair products:
Itchy scalp problems could occur due to the hair products that are used on the scalp. A lot of hair products have harsh chemicals, and thus should be avoided. Look at the labels of the items you use on your hair. Sodium laurel sulphate should be avoided as well as other similar ingredients. So, check the labels, and if it has that, get rid of it. Try hair products that are all natural, or made from less harmful substances, and see if it makes a difference.
Drying shampoos:
Some shampoos add to the problem and cause your scalp to itch more often because it is so dry. Often you can cure the problem by switching to a different shampoo, one with moisturizer, and using a conditioner. If your scalp is excessively dry, then consider using a shampoo or conditioner with jojoba oil or emu oil, as not only is it good for the hair, but it also helps you scalp to be moist without getting too greasy.
Dandruff:
Dandruff is a common cause of scalp itching, and is fairly simply to deal with using a dandruff medicated shampoo. You can also talk to your doctor, as it can be solved with a prescription shampoo, or a scalp medication.
Scalp Psoriasis:
If you have scalp psoriasis, you may need to see a doctor to get a medical treatment. However, you can use a home remedy or a Follicleanse, to help clear out your follicles and make them healthier. Choose shampoos that have natural ingredients like sage, thyme, fenugreek, etc.
So, if your scalp itches, consider using some home treatments, such as new shampoo, fewer products, and natural cleaners such as fenugreek, sage, and thyme. Then, if the itch does not disappear then visit a doctor for some help. It may indicate future hair problems, or scalp issues. Do not ignore the itch and hope it goes away, bacterial itches need to be treated.
